All organisations registered in the Register of Business Enterprises must enter their registration number (organisasjonsnr.) on the business documents.
The business registration number on the documents will help others verify the authenticity of the business and generally strengthen the credibility between business partners. The business registration number is required in your communication with the authorities.
If you are running a business and are registered in the VAT Register (merverdiavgiftsregisteret), the letters MVA must be added at the end of the business registration number on all documents.
This will indicate that your business is obliged to include VAT to the sales price. If these identification letters or the business registration number are missing on sales documents, your customer may not get deduction for their input VAT.
Limited companies, public limited companies and branches of foreign enterprises must in addition add the word “Foretaksregisteret” (Register of Business Enterprises) together with to the business registration number in order to indicate that the business is registered in the Register of Business Enterprises.
Other businesses registered in the Register of Business Enterprises may do the same, but are not obliged to do so. The purpose of this requirement is to provide information on which business registers the enterprise is registered in.
There are also other requirements for limited and public limited companies regarding the business documents. The company entity and the head office address must be added, and it must be notified if the company is under liquidation.
