Licences - Authorization

Some types of business activities require special licences, either because only people with a mandatory (documented) competence are allowed to practice or because the business belongs to a sector otherwise regulated by the authorities.

In some business sectors it is required that the person performing the activity has an authorisation before starting up or operating the business. This applies for business sectors such as:

§         Driving instructors

§         Doctors

§         Physiotherapists

§         Auditors

§         Accountants

§         Lawyers

§         Stockbrokers

§         Real-estate brokers

The associated topics below provide information regarding other businesses requiring special authorisation or permissions from the authorities. You should, however, note that it is beyond the scope of these pages to list all regulations affecting starting and running a business in the sectors listed. Some of these regulations are of a general nature, - i.e. not specific to individual business sectors, but others are. In all cases, we recommend that you contact the responsible bodies (see the right hand column). If in doubt about what you can and cannot legally do in your business sector, call the Business Information Services (tel. 800 33 840) for additional information.
